It’s happening. The leaves have fallen and you’ve dug up your winter coat. You have been bombarded by the thought of making holiday plans, as you unapologetically chug chais or pumpkin spice lattes. While you were getting your caffeine fix, we put together a list of Fall/Winter movies to ease your holiday season. From Oscar contenders and highly anticipated films like Wild and The Theory of Everything to indie comedies like Dear White People and The Skeleton Twins, there are countless theater possibilities this Winter that do not include your conservative drunk uncle.

1. White Bird In A Blizzard

Shailene Woodley plays a teenager in the late ’80s whose mother mysteriously disappears. Eventually, she learns just how little she knew about her seemingly perfect mother.

Based on the memoir Wild:From Lost To Found On The Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed, Reese Witherspoon stars in this highly anticipated film about a distressed woman who hikes along the Pacific Crest Trail in a attempt to heal herself after the loss of her mother and years of self-destructive behavior.

3. Men, Women And Children

Directed by Jason Reitman, this dramedy focuses on an all star cast of adults and children who must figure out how to live their lives during the peak of digital technology.

This “jazz movie” set in the ’70s follows the life of pianist and heroine addict Joe Albany (played by John Hawkes) through the eyes of his daughter Amy (played by Elle Fanning). Low Down is based on the memoir Low Down: Junk, Jazz and Other Fairytales From Childhood by Amy Albany.
