7 Best Music Videos of the Year (So Far)

2+0+1+4 = 7 music videos you should be checking out stat.

In alphabetical order:

1. Mykki Blanco – “She Gutta”

Post-apocalyptic visuals depicting gang culture, with a heavy dose of disrupting the traditional masculine narrative.

2. Neneh Cherry feat. Robyn – “Out of the Black”

Off the wall visuals perfectly complement this dizzying Four Tet produced collaboration between two great artists from Sweden. Watching this 3D cut and paste visual mash up make the  unnerving lyrics paired with a jarring beat feel like supplements.

3. Habibi – “I Got the Moves”

Based on this video, there’s nothing quite like doing random dance moves in a crowded apartment of guys with mild leather jacket fetishes. Claps and tambourines are extra, but warmly received.

4. Klangkarussell – “Netzwerk (Falls Like Rain)”

Ukrainian daredevil Mustang Wanted is the focus and marvel of the Austrian electronic duo’s second single off their debut album Netzwerk out this month.  Even if you find heights dizzying, you’ll have the urge to forego the carousel for the roller coaster.

5. Sia – “Chandelier”

Of course she isn’t being skipped over. With over 60 million YouTube views and counting, there’s still love to go around after watching it 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3 times. The Dev Hynes remix is completely worth a lock yourself in a room listen.

6.Jessie Ware – “Tough Love”

British soul singer Jessie Ware is better than cake, seriously. Better than two cakes. Whatever experimental art soul, visual project she’s on—we want in.

7. Wild Beasts – “Wanderlust”

This hyper-stylized video is set in a very Beetlejuice-like underworld—equipped with ghostly football players—and it seems useless to try and make any real sense of it. The line “”Don’t confuse me with someone who gives a fuck” is featured front and center, so just enjoy some harmless diplopia.
