A Few of Our Favorite Things: Princess

Princess is a drums-and-guitar duo hailing from Dublin, comprised of Aoife Frances and Liam Mesbur, two teenage friends who only began writing, performing, and producing their own music within the past two years. Their sound mixes the dreaminess of psychedelia with grinding noise and the gritty energy of garage rock, and to transfixing success. This week, they’ve released a Ben Bix remix of the track “Molly,” a slow, wispy jam and the second single off of their upcoming mini LP  (due out in January). Their 2013 debut EP Black Cat has received buzz from all across the blogosphere, including critical acclaim from DIY and Artrocker, and the two have toured extensively through the UK and Europe, most notably opening for Cloud Nothings this past May and recently for Damo Suzuki (a Krautrock hero to  both).

Their penchant for both structured melody and rhythm and experimental abandon caught our ears over here, so we asked the dudes to fill us in about the sources of inspiration behind their signature push and pull with chaos and cohesion. Much like their music, their taste is all over the spectrum. Check out their dance between high and low brow, from Brave New World to the iconic breaking of Batman. Details for their upcoming tour can be found below.
