Alt Space – the new combination gallery, concept store, and headquarters of music and culture blog/zine Alt Citizen (www.altcitizen.com)–will be hosting its grand opening Friday, May 15th at 41 Montrose Avenue in Brooklyn, and will include an opening reception for inaugural exhibition Pancake Ferrari, a solo show featuring new paintings and a floor-to-ceiling installation of works from NYC-based artist Brian Leo.

Alt Space is curated by ALT CITIZEN Editor in Chief Nasa Hadizadeh and style artist Phil Gomez, and features exclusive merchandise by HEFF,LACTIC,Damage, Toy Syndrome andEleen Halvorsen, alongside a handpicked selection of clothing, vinyl, art prints, zines, books, vintage items, and a monthly art exhibition. ALT CITIZEN originally started as a Brooklyn-centric music and culture blog in 2012 and eventually grew to become a bi-annual print zine, featuring interviews with influential artists such as Julian Casablancas + the VoidzHannibal Buress, and JD Samson.  Now, with its new Brooklyn location, the blog/zine has naturally evolved and extended into Alt Space, a fully fledged art gallery and shop dedicated to showcasing and celebrating art, music, and film that goes beyond chasing trends and, instead, unites people through shared passion.

This inviting, celebratory approach to arts communities — especially those local to Brooklyn — has sparked a much-necessary dialogue about the importance of creativity and the DIY spirit, and has since generated in-store merchandise collaborations with brands such as Sext Pixels,Dai Morf,Ytinifninfinty,Goddess,Trixy Starr,NAC,Ubermensch, Wake up the Witch, H0les Eyewear,These Americans,Polyester Zine,Chapess Zine,Creeps Annual,Cult Records,Burger Records,Metatron, Packet Fashion Vol 11, My Little Stoney and many more. Coupled with Brian Leo’s vibrant take on Pop Art, Surrealism, and the raw authenticity of lo-fi music in Pancake Ferrari, Alt Space’s grand opening will establish itself as a friendly yet crucial voice in the DIY circles of NYC and beyond.
