White Lung took a tremendous step forward with last album Paradise, growing beyond their hardcore roots to make expansive alternative-rock. They still bring the same unbridled energy to their shows, so hopefully they’ll shake the typically stoic New York audience into letting loose. White Lung’s newfound range is reflected in their choice of opening acts. Pop. 1280 make challenging post-punk and the Verdigrls are (sound-wise) the farthest you could get from a typical punk band. The last time I saw the latter they played at a friend’s house venue, and I’m excited to hear how their klonopin pop sounds on a more professional stage.
