Art Cures: NSFW

Art Cures, our new series, offers a themed list of music, films, books, events and other cool stuff in hopes of supplying you with a sufficient art fix, as well as the cures you didn’t know you needed. So whether you’re reeling from a recent break-up, seeking inspiration for your creative block, or just needing a change of scenery, these lists will help raise your spirits and remedy your ills.

Greetings! Since it’s early in the week and absolutely disgusting outside, I would like to propose an exploration of some sexy stuff because well, everybody loves sexy stuff. Sexuality is probably the only thing in existence that can be simultaneously beautiful, awkward, funny, frightening, healthy, normal and dangerous, so I think its inclusion in more day-to-day chats would be pretty cool. And because only certain *pleasurable* things can bring us out of the early winter/weekday blues, allow this list to serve as your picker-upper.

  • Go see the latest film from the always-polarizing Gaspar Noé at The Angelika. Explicit sex scenes shot in 3d, why not?!

  • Head over to Tumblr for some Old, Erotic Art. The site posts images from past centuries, and they’re bizarre and funny and ultimately amazing.

    • Another fantastic Tumblr is SuperPhazed. Here, Canadian digital artist Jean-Francois Painchaud creates these totally mesmerizing gifs as a way of expressing consciousness and human connections. Some are super sexual but others are a little more tame and include cats!

  • When I came across this link for “Hours and Hours of Awesome Music From 70’s Porn Films,” I knew I would not be disappointed. The “sextapes” are made by a French “Beatmaker Compoyzer” who goes by the name of Drixxxé. I legitimately think this is one of the best things I’ve ever discovered on the Internet, and you should listen to it like, right now.

  • Weird out (or turn on?) your next Tinder date by suggesting a viewing of Nymph()maniac. If you’re gonna Netflix & Chill, you might as well make it interesting.

      • Order a copy of Adult, a “magazine of new erotics.” Edited by NYC writer Sarah Nicole Prickett, it offers a wide variety of contributions from a ton of amazing artists and writers like Melissa Broder, Udo Kier and p0rn-star Stoya. Be sure to leave it casually hanging out in your living room.

      • If you haven’t already, check out Bunny Michael’s new column, “The Sexual Existentialist.” In the series, she “brings new insight to the creative connection between sex and art.” It’s deep yet relatable, and totally worth a read.
