Brian’s List: Week of 12/12

BRIAN’S LIST: SHOWCASING THE BEST DEALS AND INTERESTING FINDS IN MUSICAL EQUIPMENT IN NEW YORK CITY.

Hope everyone enjoyed last week’s installment! Brian’s List is back this week with more choice pics for your winter woodshedding needs!

1959 Gretsch New Yorker – $500

First up is a real beauty and quite a steal too!  Made here in Brooklyn, this introductory arch top is in great shape despite the neck repair.  Seller says it’s on solid and is good to go!  This was set-up with a lefty bridge and nut but have no fear this is not a big deal to switch to righty and with this kind of savings why not??  And if you ARE a lefty then you are in serious luck!

Comes with a new Canadian made hard case as well!

Location: Brooklyn

If you want to spend a few hundred more dollars, Gretsch just re-issued this guitar.  But that would be dumb.  See for yourself:

1960 KAY Style Leader w/matching tube amp – $500

Why the seller didn’t include the fact that this guitar came with the matching 1960 Kay little tube amp is insane to me.  And no pics either!  For this price – a rad little guitar and practice amp from the golden era of guitar innovation and design – you can’t go wrong.

Double pick-up model – all original.  Seller says the neck straight and intonation is solid!

Location: Park Slope, Brooklyn

Here is an entertaining demo of this model:

1940’s Kay “K-37” Arch Top – $275

Keeping the Kay vibes alive here is a 1940’s Kay arch top that is really easy on the eyes and even easier on the wallet!  Seller says the action is pretty great until you get past the 9th fret.  This can be adjusted by a professional – I am sure this doesn’t need to just relegated for slide!  But slide guitar rules too!!

This is the kind of guitar I wouldn’t feel bad about cutting open and popping in some gold foils or TV Jones pickups!  Really cool newish tweed hard case included!

Location: Chelsea, Manhattan

1969 Gibson B-15 – $550

Here is another of the smaller budget friendly Gibson acoustics and close cousin to the LGO seen in last weeks post. This guy is a bit bigger and features cross bracing instead of ladder bracing for a slightly more strength and higher price point.  Seller replaced bridge with ebony and nut with bone – YES and YES.  Replacement tuners and pick guard as well.

AC30 ROAD CASE – $130

Ready for the road?  Keep your coveted AC30 safe in this seriously tough road case!  These cases can go up to $500 new so this is a real steal and will save you cash on repairs and maintenance.  This was built for an AC30 but will fit any amp of similar size!

Tips: Find something on Brian’s List but the link has since expired?  This doesn’t mean the item has been sold.  It just means the seller did not repost the item in time.  If it is an item you are really excited about; search craigslist for it using bold terms (model name etc).  It could have been reposted under a different link or a new post altogether (updated pics, info etc.)  If it is not sold it will pop up again in the next few days.  Don’t sweat it.

In the case of something you are seriously considering, it’s good to make initial contact with the seller even if you can’t immediately purchase the item or make it out to where ever it is located right away.  This could help you too build a relationship with the seller and he/she may hold it for you over someone else until you are ready.  But as we all know- CASH IS KING.
