BRIAN’S LIST: SHOWCASING THE BEST DEALS AND INTERESTING FINDS IN MUSICAL EQUIPMENT IN NEW YORK CITY.
Holidays can be a wonderful time of the year or they can really be a major pain in the butt. Don’t worry – no matter which way this one is swinging for ya there are tons of cool gear available to ensure you keep rockin’ into 2017!
First up is offering a serious 2 for 1 here! This mid-sixties copper-burst double neck guitar and bass is pretty out of this world! I unfortunately don’t think this will be a “deal” but this is a rare bird that one only sees fly every few years so I felt it was worth sharing. This will probably not sell very fast, so feel free to give him a call and make an offer… every few weeks ha.
Features the famous lipstick pickups that Danelectro’s are known for. This is going for sale “as is” but not sure how it is cause there is no description… seller basically leaves it up to you to call him. I found a pristine one on Reverb.com that sold for over 3K! A real testament too how rare this guitar is!
Location: Staten Island
From what looks to be the same seller as the Danelectro Double Neck, we have here a 1960’s Danelectro DM-10 amplifier. This is a great alternative to the Fender Vibro Champ from the same period but with a few hundred dollars in savings.
Features a Jensen 8″ speaker, 6 watts of power and lush tube driven tremolo. Great for recording or low volume jamming.
Here is a cool demo of a guy playing a DM-10 with an added speaker cab. Not so small anymore!:
Location: Staten Island
OK – to be clear the cabinets are $200 each or best offer. These massive dinosaurs from the early 70’s are built tough and are loaded with nice JBL speakers. These are super clean- doesn’t look to be any rips in the fabulous Kustom “tuck n roll” leather! These 2×15″ speaker boxes are ready to shake the world or kill in your studio.
If they were good enough for CCR – they are good enough for you.
Up next we have a rare little gem from the mid-sixties out of Hoboken, NJ. This combo runs at an estimated 12 watts of power and features 2X10″ speaker configuration. The seller has it advertised as a Guild “Thunderbass” but by just looking at the faceplate one can see it says “Thunder 1” not Thunder bass – which is another amp by Guild. This guy was re-capped, re-tubed last year and used very lightly since seller says.
Features tremolo – I bet she sings! Go check it out!
Location: Manhattan / NJ??
Yes that’s right folks – FREE. But you gotta come pick it up and you gotta get it THIS WEEKEND! According to the seller, or in this case donor, the actual mechanics are solid and the action is good across the keyboard. The donor received it as a gift and wants to pass it on to someone who will love it as much as he did. “It plays like a dream” he says! Old piano’s have such history… this one is believed to have lived in a Jazz club in it’s youth.
This is a big one – 6′ 3″ deep – you’ll definitely need to move it professionally.
Location: Bushwick, Brooklyn
Tips: Find something on Brian’s List but the link has since expired? This doesn’t mean the item has been sold. It just means the seller did not repost the item in time. If it is an item you are really excited about; search craigslist for it using bold terms (model name etc). It could have been reposted under a different link or a new post altogether (updated pics, info etc.) If it is not sold it will pop up again in the next few days. Don’t sweat it.
In the case of something you are seriously considering, it’s good to make initial contact with the seller even if you can’t immediately purchase the item or make it out to where ever it is located right away. This could help you too build a relationship with the seller and he/she may hold it for you over someone else until you are ready. But as we all know- CASH IS KING.
