Premiere: Twin Peaks and Post Animal combine magic powers on acid as Column

Chicago bands seem to know each other and connect with each other in a way that doesn’t organically happen anywhere else. There’s an incredible community in Brooklyn where everyone knows each other, supports each other, and parties with each other, but Chicago does it in a manner that feels like the cul-de-sac kids getting together in the woods to smoke weed. It’s got to be something about how Chicago’s neighborhoods actually feel like neighborhoods… with alleyways and garages in which to make homes with chosen family.

I’m talking specifically about Twin Peaks and their pals from Post Animal. The guys are a prime example of what kinds of friendships and relationships form in their hometown scene, riding motorcycles and generally causing trouble and making art in those crucial alleyways with whoever is on their specific level of “out there.”

The dudes from Post Animal (Dalton Allison, Jake Hirshland, Javi Reyes, Matt Williams, and Wes Toledo) and Caiden James from TP have joined their drug-induced magic forces to form Column, who are releasing their debut  7″, “I & II,” via Grand Jury today. The video for “I” that comes along with it feels like the no-budget home movies you used to make with Dad’s camcorder. Watch and feel what it’s like to wander the loop in downtown Chicago while, without a shimmer of doubt, tripping hard on acid.

It’s dreamy as only a VHS-tinged video in the woods can be. Taking the theme of brotherhood further, Clay Frankel from Twin Peaks concocted the idea for his buds’ video (directed by Tim Nagle). The fact that all of these guys have so much love for each other makes this whole thing extra cozy.

Caiden and Javi started experimenting with this sounds shortly after Caiden moved into a house with the rest of the Post crew. The sound is open and nostalgic in a way that neither bands had explored on their own and I can’t wait for more.

ORDER “I” b/w “II” 7” here, spin it on Spotify, and follow on Instagram and Twitter.
