Listen: Angel Olsen “All Right Now”

A voice like sad sugar, Angel Olson’s, “All Right Now” (off the upcoming deluxe edition of Burn Your Fire For No Witness) is melancholic, mournful, and brings about an image of a southern cemetery on a Sunday afternoon. It’s a song straight out of a funeral procession with a solemn bass drum booming in the background and a weeping church organ scuttling after Olsen’s gospel. Reminiscent to the cemetery walks I often took during the summer back in Illinois, gazing at all the headstones and faded names, realizing that life is a paradox where everything is “all right” and “not all right” simultaneously. Olsen is the friend that tries to comfort you after some family tragedy—telling you that the strength inside you to overcome such terrible things has always been there. Most importantly, the worst is over and everything will be better. Listen below.

The deluxe edition of Burn Your Fire For No Witness is out 11/18 on Jagaguwar.
