Dan Snaith has many musical faces. Most recently, he recorded under the name Daphni, but is probably best known for his work as Manitoba, but had to change his name after a lawsuit from The Dictator’s member Richard “Handsome Dick” Manitoba. When someone with the nickname Handsome Dick sends you a cease and desist, you probably at least consider it. Manitoba morphed into what is now his main project, Caribou. He hasn’t released anything under that name since 2010’s excellent Swim. Thankfully for all fans of electronic music, Caribou is back this year with Our Love, out in October via Merge Records.

To coincide with the announcement, Snaith has given us “Can’t Do Without You.” As much as dubstep has taken over the pregnant pause and drop (in their case this mostly involves bass I’ve heard), “Can’t Do Without You” has one of the most rewarding flourishes this side of Death Cab dropping the lo-fi. Snaith’s signature synth style is prominent here as well. It’s nice to hear again after so many years. Like an old friend coming to visit unexpectedly. Check it out below.

Our Love is out October 7th on Merge.
