Austin’s Pure X are releasing a new album this April titled Angel, their first release on new label Fat Possum. Our first glimpse of Angel comes in the form of “Starlight,” a laid back and breezy track that takes a little bit of the edge of the band’s sound (although there wasn’t that large an edge to begin with. Their website’s url is “mellowthrasher” after all). It has an almost late ’70s feel to it, with a very simple drum pattern underlying acoustic and electric guitar. Both guitars feel relaxing. The vocals are also sung in a near falsetto. It all comes together to transport you to a beach on a tropical island, or at least a bar with a tropical theme. Grab a Piña Colada and listen below.
