Listen: Slow Fiction ‘The Cut / Niagara’

New York-based Slow Fiction have just released their debut double single — ‘The Cut / Niagara’. Seeming to have been plucked straight from a Kat Stratford fever dream, the band has a sort of late 90s/early oughts rock tinge with a bit more edge, paired with vocals reminiscent of Dolores O’Riordan. With tracks that are biting, sincere, and still maintain an air of mystery, it’s an exciting introduction for the band.

On the track “The Cut” the band shared: I definitely see this song as a loud, upbeat representation of a very painful story. I think a lot of the time, I try to transform negative experiences with a sarcastic, tongue-in-cheek form of writing.

“Niagara” speaks straight to the band’s environment and influences and the inescapable nature of how small such a large city can feel. They shared: I think ‘Niagara,’ besides being named after a bar in the East Village I’ve been to many times, is a track that signifies a turning point. It’s a song fueled by angst and figuring out how to move on from relationships in this city, where everyone knows everyone.
Slow Fiction is playing twice this month — catch them at Berlin under A on January 20th with Bad Waitresses and at the Sultan Room on January 27th with Native Sun and The Wants.
