As someone who also hails from the weird hills of Western Massachusetts, I can’t help but cheer for Northampton’s own Speedy Ortiz as they continue to rise to prominence. Foil Deer, the band’s third full-length album and second release on Carpark Records, is shaping up to be another collection of bold, textured grunge rock, as made evident by its latest single “Puffer.” In stark contrast to the melodic first taste of the LP, “Puffer” is an anxious, aggressive track that pairs frontwoman Sadie Dupuis’ vocals with an arsenal of squelching guitars. It’s just what you want out of a new Speedy Ortiz song.
