Just over the pond the Brits are reminding us they know what dream-pops are made of. The Liverpool janglers, SPINN, are amassing some attention with their newest sad-boy single, Notice Me. The track was originally written to get airplay from their local BBC radio host – Dave Monks. The track that longs for Monks’ attention transcends and nudges at teenage unrequited love with just a touch of an overcast English summer day. Vocalist, Jonathon Quinn sings “I got your picture on my wall, and your face stuck in my head…I know you’ll never notice me”
The charmingly somber lyrics sound nonchalant over the simple break beat intro and their catchy and cool guitar hooks. The song incorporates some subtle synths near the end which places their sound somewhere between Wild Nothing and The Wombats.
Their other single Home take their soft-boy approach to a new level. Equally punchy instrumentation is given a cuter sound with “ooos” and lines like “I’m not leaving here alone, let me lay here in the moment.”
