Finally, some good news on the DIY front! After the gutting news that Shea Stadium won’t be reopening in its original location due to their landlord wanting to open their own nightclub (*pssst* no one go there) Secret Project Robot is reopening! The multi-purpose art/performance/party space’s last incarnation was the birthplace of the drag festival Bushwig and hosted events like a Surrealist Dinner Party and the Dirty Looks Film Festival. Now a new era begins, with founding duo Rachel Nelson and Erik Zajaceskowski christening the space’s new incarnation/location at 1186 Broadway with an all night party. The celebration starts with free champagne from 7-9 pm and DJs like “spiritual-mountain-psychedelic-gangsta-folk” artist Frank Hurricane spinning all night. There’s an outdoor patio “and soon to be sculpture garden” a “a large and airy exhibition/performance space” that will probably turn into a dancefloor as the night wears on, as well a bar nicknamed “cuckoo.” In the world of ever-increasing rent and nosy cops, it’s great to see that spaces persist that are intent on supporting struggling artists and help support the creative vibes that made of Bushwick/Brooklyn such a mecca.
All Ages? Check out the opening party’s event page here. No tickets necessary.
