Today Belarusian trio Molchat Doma announce the release of their third album, Monument, due out on November 13, 2020 via Sacred Bones Records. With the announcement comes the new single “Ne Smeshno,” a pre-pandemic live favorite.
After an unexpected rise to TikTok fame, Molchat Doma’s Sudno (Судно) is now at over 22 million streams on Spotify. The coldwave group have set themselves at the forefront of the darkwave revival currently happening, and definitely don’t plan to be stopping anytime soon.
Molchat Doma’s newest single Ne Smeshno (Не Смешно) is dark yet danceable with synth-heavy beats, sinister guitar riffs, and a catchy bassline that has you dreaming of becoming a regular at your local goth club. Even without understanding the Belarusian lyrics, you feel the foggy atmosphere created by lead Egor Shkutko’s brooding vocals and Roman Komogortsev’s sparkling reverbed-out guitar riffs seemingly in the distance. The name of the single actually directly translates to “Not Funny,” expressing feelings of disconnection and frustration, all over pummeling drum machines.
The band pulls obvious influence from classic goth and coldwave acts such as Low-Life era New Order, Depeche Mode, Grauzone, or even the early synthpop of Ministry, but still feels incredibly unique and features incredible production. Molchat Doma is reviving darkwave for a new generation, and this new track will prove to be a future goth club hit.
