New York City-bred and globe-trottin’ rock band The Thing closed its three-night Nightclub 101 residency on July 24 with support from fellow 70s-tinged rockers Certain Death.
Photographer Kate Cassise was there to capture the bands and all their rock ‘n’ roll glory. Her pictures are just as much a nod to the majestic, reigning rock era of the bands’ forefathers – like that of Pink Floyd, The Who, and underground garage rock bands found on Nuggets compilations – as is the music and souls of The Thing and Certain Death.
Bolstered by its NYC roots, The Thing has been one of the hottest tickets in town this summer. Local fans awaited the band’s return from its second-ever European run in June, including a support slot opening for The Black Keys in Berlin, and sold out all three shows at 101.
Lucky for anyone who missed the 101 run – The demand prevailed, and the band booked another gig on August 15 at Baby’s All Right. The night has been deemed as the album release show for the quartet’s highly anticipated, self-titled junior album, out tomorrow, August 6. The guys are off to tour Australia in October, so catch ’em while you can at Baby’s before tickets sell out.
