Premiere: Boy Deluxe’s ‘Risen’ is a must listen

I am such a sucker for dark music, especially when its in the synth pop universe. Boy Deluxe‘s new EP Risen transports the listener to smoky underground clubs and red tinged lounges. Places filled with seedy characters and strangers who offer adventure that will either lead you to ruin or to rise. The tracks on Risen were inspired by the grief and fear that Hope and True Murra felt during the pandemic and while the rich, thumping baselines and haunting instrumentals certainly reflect that, these tracks are anything but dour. This EP is also a hopeful and confident release from a duo who are clear on their identity and willing to challenge the listener to enter into a world that these two are clearly very comfortable with. There is not a single flop on it. I’ve been sent music before that I have to force myself to sit and listen to but this was not the case with Risen — I actively wanted to engage with every single track. If anything I had to force myself not to get up and dance. As a fan of musicians like Stromae and Boy Epic, this EP is right up my alley and I am honestly thrilled that Boy Deluxe was brought to my attention and a little bit shocked that I had not listened to them until now. If you haven’t given them a listen yet, I urge you to check out this new EP, immediately (and early) below.
