There are few artists that when you see them live you feel like you’re in the presence of someone truly remarkable. Nyssa is one of those artists. The Toronto pop powerhouse has that enigmatic magnitude about her and wields it with a quiet intensity in her latest video “Hey Jackie”.
With the rise of technology and arguably the decline of necessary vocal ability, Nyssa’s full, rich voice resonates that much more strongly. Juxtaposing with the cold and barren metallic wasteland she finds herself in, “Hey Jackie” is a deeply personal, fiery cry for connectedness. It acknowledges that while not wanting to go through the expected stepping stones of adulthood (getting married, having babies, staying in the same small town) might be a more fulfilling path, it doesn’t mean its without it’s crosses to bear. That doesn’t mean that Nyssa can’t rise from the ashes, though.
