Premiere: Whiner “Jump”

There is something incredibly freeing and lighthearted about listening to glam rock. As someone who mostly finds themselves gravitating toward punk music and goth rock, I will be the first to admit that generally, I tend to be more pessimistic. When I get into a bad mood, I want to stay there, and most of the time I want to make it worse.

So, I put on my grandson, my Death in June, my Christian Death (just a lot of music with death in the band name or song title) and I wait for the catharsis to come. But, after listening to “Jump” the latest single by Whiner, I think I might have to change up my listening habits a bit.

I love glam rock, but my repertoire of celebratory, disco-friendly music mostly consists of Bowie, Queen (a band who I’m not even sure technically is glam rock), and literally nothing else. And, I certainly couldn’t name a single contemporary glam rock band. At least not until listening to Whiner.

“Jump” is both sonically and lyrically very simple, and that is the beauty of it. You can read into it, delve deeper into meaning and emotion if you want to, anything that can be legitimately called music allows you to do that. But it doesn’t force you to. Rather the upbeat futuristic riffs invite you to simply enjoy the listening experience, dance around if you please. Personally, I found it to be an amazing wake and bake track, but that’s just me.

Whiner is the kind of band you find by doing a little digging and that makes the single all the more intriguing. I’m lucky that they were brought into my wavelength.

Whiner’s Single release party is at Our Wicked Lady Brooklyn TOMORROW March 23 with Darkwing , Kissing Is A Crime  and Johnny Dynamite
