Song Premiere: The Human Fly “Trash”

Reflecting on the past can be daunting—it’s usually easier to just avoid it all together. But for Brooklyn based The Human Fly, frontman Robert Mathis chose to tackle his demons through Gruesome, the band’s sophomore LP. Although the beginnings of standout track “Trash” seem simple in their creation, the track blooms, proving itself to be a puzzle of musical sorts. A Simple plucking pattern slips into a flash of hard rock, gone before we can recognize its presence. Layered strings create a faraway sprinkling of an ethereal overtone, additional vocal harmonies adding the same color. It’s a song of quick realization, as Mathis sings, “Thought I was better than this.” The honesty hits hard, as we all know how it feels to question our life and the decisions we’ve made.
