Soundtracked: Week of January 15

Listen:
After a couple of lazy weeks, January 15th has finally bestowed upon us more than a handful of albums to listen to! Click on the album cover to listen on Spotify.

Let’s start with Yo La Tengo’s Fade. I’ve listened to it only once and not sure what to make of its dreamy, bare sound, but I know I’m leaning towards liking it.

Former Girls frontman Christopher Owens also released an album this week.  It is packed with beautiful songs and a melody that seems to sneak its way into every single song.

Parquet Courts’ AMAZING Light Up Gold was released way back in August, but the band is seeing some crazy hype (which is well-deserved) with the album being re-released this week as well.

On the R&B side of things, Dawn Richard, formerly of the P.Diddy created girl group Danity Kane (!), released an album this week and its got a pretty trippy ambiance I can dig.

Tegan & Sara keep releasing tracks from the upcoming Heartthrob (out January 29) check out “I Was A Fool” here.

Watch:

Parquet Courts just released a video for the kickass “Borrowed Time” and Santigold released the adorable video for “Girls.” Watch both below.

Phoenix will be releasing a follow-up to the excellent Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, it should be out sometime in April.

The National will be playing at Barclays Center on June 5 (which hopefully means they’ll have a new album out soon).

The New York Times has a very cool and revealing profile on Christopher Owens.

Random Nostalgia:

Watch Beyonce Queen Bey perform kill it at the Billboard Music Awards 2011.

This clip from Chappelle’s Show (RIP)  featuring John Mayer and Questlove is the perfect merger of comedy and music.
