As one of the biggest shows I have ever photographed, the experience was incredible. Before the show, I had to wait with the other photographers while they were swapping war stories of photographing at Madison Square Garden and other large venues. To say the least I became nervous at the warzone they were describing. When they turned to me and I had no story to share, I’d like to think I warmed their hearts with my eagerness and excitement to actually be there! I was pleasantly surprised to find that when I entered the photo pit at Barclays, I was not entering imminent danger but actually walking into a concert-goers dream. Youth Lagoon was a great performance, which led into The National, one of the most electrifying shows I have been to. It was clear that this was their hometown between their energy and thankfulness to the crowd. And the nearly filled stadium seemed to show the same excitement from the fans. It was an amazing high-energy show with an extremely clean and on point sound, one to which was almost as sharp as they all looked in their suits. When it was time to leave the pit after three songs I realized that I had been totally immersed in the performance and couldn’t help but dance and sing along. When I turned around I found I wasn’t alone and from the back of the venue the crowd was almost as loud as the sound system.
