Using just a green screen and some oversaturated graphics and patterns, Sleeping Pills has put out a psychedelic surf video for “Drift Away,” off of their A Maze In A Wave album released in October of last year, that’s perfectly reflective of the song. Directed by Carson Cox from Merchandise, it’s simple but effective (The two bands seem to be intertwined at the moment, with Merchandise’s Patrick Brady joining Sleeping Pills).
While the band’s sounds are decidedly different, the collaboration works out perfectly. The self-described “dark surf post-punks” from Tampa, Florida have a sound that could have come out of the 80’s, between the drums and the deep, booming vocals, the almost subliminal imagery of water and waves harken the same time period.
Moody yet calm, hazy yet loud, this video is basically asking you to alter your state and Drift Away, too.
