Watch: Jordan Dennis “Elon Must”

It’s 2020, and judging by his new video, Jordan Dennis has been spending lock-down looking at memes on the internet. Let’s be honest, there’s not much else to get inspired by these days. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing either, because this video is a joy to behold. Not just because it contains Elon Musk with a flamethrower and an unidentified American citizen shooting his hat off, but because all of these images swirl together to form a perfect backdrop to a banging new song.
Despite the abundance of pop culture references and, um, Elon Musk, it’s foolish to pass this off as anything like superfluous. There’s real good songwriting going on here. The lyrics are clever and unpredictable, focusing on gravity bound limitations before expressing the need to “fly out into the galaxy”, and Dennis’ delivery is smooth and fluid enough to be mistaken for hip hop greats such as Kendrick Lamar.
It’s short and fleeting, but there’s no denying the statement of “Elon Must” lands pretty hard. Jordan Dennis is doing to the game what Elon Musk did to science. He’s ripping up the road map and parking his car all the way up in space.
Be sure to catch Jordan Dennis’ new EP, HDMI2, out now.
