Watch: SBTRKT “New Dorp. New York” featuring Ezra Koenig

SBTRKT introduces a new New York in his latest music video. “New Dorp. New York” is the first track off SBTRKT’s new album, Wonder Where We Land and should be the first track on your Fall playlist. The cryptic high energy single features Vampire Weekend’s, Ezra Koenig singing/scatting lyrics about New York City: “Late nights and black Israelites, White women singing under dying the lights, Baseball bats that never hit home runs. “

The foot tapping, afro-electronic track is illustrated in a futuristic animated world where a creepy weasel lurks around an abandoned city in hiding. The creature, wearing the SBTRKT mask, eventually ascends into the clouds onto the metallic hand mirroring the cover art for Wonder Where We Land.  The man behind the mask, Aaron Jerome told  It’s Nice That, “SBTRKT wanted something along the lines of King Kong in New York; the concept that the creature is this alien thing to a built, man-made environment.” Although the music video doesn’t match the lyrics, it certainly leaves us pining on the themes presented in the animated clip directed by Fons Schiedon. And its also just so damn catchy.
