I have a confession. Growing up I was a real shithead. Dennis The Menace and Calvin were my comic strip heroes and I strove to emulate their specific brand of big-hearted mischievousness and high energy hijinks to the dismay of my parents and teachers alike. As I got a little older I eventually mellowed out, but deep inside there’s still a little prankster just waiting for the right moment to pounce on an unsuspecting victim.
This is probably why I thoroughly enjoy Gymshorts so much. Sarah and her merry band of punky rabble rousers allow me to tap into that youthful strain of reckless abandon two-and-a-half minutes at a time and gleefully work myself into vicarious misadventures of ding-dong-ditching on your mom, calling out poser copy cats, and sharking on anyone bold enough to challenge me to a game of Uno.
Gymshorts are on tour right now and I was lucky enough to catch up with them before their show last week at Knitting Factory Brooklyn and take a look at What’s In The Van. Check out the video for a very personal tour of the band’s essential road gear, in-jokes, and side stories and be sure to catch Gymshorts when they roll through your town this summer.
Keep up with Gymshorts on tour, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram
