Ten Things We Learned From Kanye’s GQ Interview

Kanye-West-Announces-Rescheduled-Yeezus-Tour-Dates-01Last month, GQ sat down with the world’s most interesting and sought after man, Kanye West. In the interview he clears up some of those nasty rumors (gold toilet seat?), tells us what kind of fish he is and dishes on the Kimye phenomenon. We put together a list of some of the best moments. Enjoy!

1. If Kanye was a fish, he would be a Blowfish  (Hold the South Park jokes)

On Kanye’s anger issues, he described to the magazine, “…I’m a blowfish. I’m not a shark, I’m a blowfish. So that perfect example about me hitting my head, it’s like a blowfish. I wasn’t coming out of my house going to a paparazzi’s house to attack them. I’m defending my family in front of my own house.”

Good to know.

2.  During his wedding toast he spoke about the Civil Rights Movement

The tabloids attacked Kanye for giving a “45 minute speech to himself,” however he expresses in GQ that during the speech he spoke on the similarity of blacks in the South during the 60s and celebrities today having no rights and no power.

3.  Carine Roitfeld should have been the biggest news at his wedding

Former Vogue Paris Editor in Chief, Carine Roitfeld, attended Kimye’s wedding and apparently sat only a few seats away from the bride. Kanye says, “It really was a representation of the way we receive information today, post-Internet. And so Page Six can’t overshadow the main point: Carine Roitfeld was sitting next to Kim Kardashian … the fact that they’re from different walks of life, and that they’re working together and not discriminating against each other.”

4. He thinks Kim is the queen of Instagram

And after their wedding photo went to become the most liked picture on Instagram ever, maybe she is.

5. He is a romantic

“Love is infectious…I feel like you’re stronger as a team. Because when you know you have a team player, it’s not one on the world anymore. At least it’s two on the world.”

AWWW.

6. Kanye loves Step Brothers

We already know that Kanye is a Will Ferrell fan from his sample in “N***as in Paris,” but we didn’t know that his philosophy on love and marrying his dream girl comes from a line in Ferrell’s film, Step Brothers.

“Like they said in Step Brothers: Never lose your dinosaur.”

7. He will argue that “New Slaves” contains the greatest rap verse of all time

8. “We all need Kim skills, period.”

Period.

9. Kanye aspires to have what Jay-Z has

Kanye explains that he admires Jay-Z because, “He’s the poster child of winning. And I think I was the poster child of, like, fighting and winning. But you always saw the fight. And with Jay, you always saw the win.”

10. He is the coolest dad ever

Or at least strives to be.

“Family is super cool. Going home to one girl every night is super cool. Just going home and getting on the floor and playing with your child is super cool. Not wearing a red leather jacket, and just looking like a dad and shit, is like super cool.”
