Album Premiere: Lothar ‘Feu et Joie’

‘Feu et Joie’ or Fire and Joy in English, praises the void between things… it praises the time that goes slow and the rage of those we don’t see… it praises our overflowing emotions, our anger for nothing, our joys, meticulously embroidered in each and every day, our loneliness— according to Lothar. The album— his second if you don’t count ‘anti-album’ which consists of songs that didn’t make it on to this one, is an energy burst narrative filled with feelings of uncertainty. The songs you listen to in a dark club while experiencing your latest existential crisis or alone at home at 2am scratching manic thoughts away into your journal. Odes of ambiguity and the unknown. I’m not quite sure who he’s singing to… at times it feels like past and / or current lovers and at others it feels like himself. Perhaps it’s all of the above. I didn’t feel like asking Lothar because I enjoy leaving it up to my interpretation. I did ask him to send me the lyrics to the songs, considering it’s all in French, and I am as entry level French as it gets. While it provided context to the heart of each song, it was less of an answer key and more a poetic journey through his thoughts. I anticipate on each new listen to uncover more to what exactly is going on in his head. I encourage you to uncover for yourself; listen to ‘Feu et Joie’ below:
