Review: Cloud Control @ Baby’s All Right (1/11)
This past Saturday was pretty terrible weather-wise, so Brooklyn’s fairly new bar/restaurant/music venue Baby’s All Right was the perfect place to be for anyone looking to escape the rain and replace those dreary winter vibes with the warm radiance of some dreamy Australian rock. The whole place heated up – both figuratively and literally – as Cloud Control took the stage and intoxicated an eager crowd with their kaleidoscopic tunes.

They played a slew of newer tracks from their sophomore album Dream Cave – “Dojo Rising” was the best IMHO – along with older goodies like “Gold Canary,” all while showcasing their ability to combine several different genres within their unique and cohesive sound. The genre-blending is rather obvious on Dream Cave, but something about the energy in their live performance totally intensified it; “Moonrabbit” almost sounded like an updated Beach Boys track, while “The Smoke, The Feeling” was hazy and reminiscent of Beach House. Front man Alister Wright’s vocals also seem to change in accordance with the vibe of each song, proving that his voice sounds awesome whether he’s belting out the lyrics or taking a more mellow approach. And the harmonizing of his and Heidi Lenffer’s vocals was spot-on.

Lessons learned: live music is the best way to keep warm on rainy winter nights, and if you ever get the chance to see a Cloud Control performance then you should most definitely take it.
