Public Access TV is finally out with their latest self-titled five track EP. After spending 2014 teasing music reviewers and fans with 7″ singles “In the Mirror” and “Rebounder,” this four piece outfit has the attention of media outlets, being named New York’s Hottest band by NME, as well as “In the Mirror” earning Radar’s Band of the Week. But does the media storm hold up to a live performance? On Monday, May 18 at the Bowery Ballroom I got to hold them to the test.
As I was heading to the Bowery, I was skeptical of Public Access TV’s media attention. Are they just another buzz band that I will forget about? Sure they look cool, but is the live music any good? I got to the venue just as they were starting and pushed my way to the front to get the full experience. After taking in the show and snapping a few shots for the article, my verdict is: hello summer jammers! Music for lovers of Roxy Music and the Strokes, Public Access TV tunes will be your ear sweets. I was pleasantly surprised by these Lower East Side gents, who showed their raw energy playing music to the eager fans. Say what you wish about media attention, but their talent as musicians and holding the crowd, they gave a captivating performance, making Public Access TV a well-deserved buzz.

The band is characterized by jangly guitars, tender melodies, and honestly sweet lyrics, all tied together with the rigor of rock songs. As a member of the crowd, you could see the sweat dripping off John’s (the frontman) face as he belted out to the crowd. The way that they were vibing off each other and pacing the stage is a direct testament to the playfulness of their music, an energy more indie rock acts need. With Public Access TV, it’s not just that they are talented musicians, but as performers they are able to foster a sense of youthful riot in their stage presence while also executing their songs with effortless precision. I love going to a show and seeing the band members really get into that movement: playing off each other, leaning on one another, running to odd ends of the stage. Few and far bands are able to achieve both in one performance.

Definitely a band to check out! I am excited to see were these fellas are heading, which is hopefully on the up and up. Honestly, I would expect nothing less.
