Hailing from Orange County, CA, The Flytraps have crash-landed in NYC with a freshly sharpened lineup: Kristin Cooper’s wailing, feral vocals and bass front and center, backed by some of the city’s finest musicians – Bratt on lead guitar, Tristan Fox on rhythm guitar, and Fabian Ruiz on drums. The band welds old-school punk attitude to garage-rock melody, creating a sound that bites.
The Flytraps first caught our attention last month at Baker Falls, where they tore through a set alongside The Star Spangles and Grumpers—snarling hooks, jagged guitars, and the kind of unbothered chaos that feels right at home in a sweaty late-night venue. Photographer Kate Cassise captured the band’s raw energy, sealing their place as one of NYC’s must-see acts.
It’s no surprise they’ve been added to the legendary bill for New York’s Night Train 17th Annual Dusk-to-Dawn NYE party. If this is their debut era in the city, we’re strapped in. Excited to see where they go next.
