The latest installment of PIX, the global photography project by New York City-based visual artist Pete Voelker, has arrived. Organized by Spotz, the print publication series is a visual conversation — a call-and-response between prompt and photographic interpretation. Since its inception in 2019, PIX has showcased 1,200 photographs from more than 600 photographers, fostering community, promoting visual literacy, and facilitating a global photographic exchange.
Each edition begins with a publicly shared prompt. Voelker invites photographers worldwide to submit images in response — free of charge — contributing to a curated portfolio of 30 photographs. The resulting zine, designed and published by Spotz, is a carefully sequenced visual dialogue that spans styles, geographies, and perspectives.
PIX 040: Emmie America, spotlighting the Russian artist, photographer, and activist based in New York, debuts Thursday, May 15, at Blankmag Books in NYC. The launch event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. and will feature exclusive merch, including a limited-edition t-shirt. “The main purpose is to get people in the same room, talking about photography and building a real community,” Voelker said of the release party.
Voelker has hinted at exciting upcoming opportunities on the horizon for future PIX editions, and we’ve got the exclusive: Josh Wildman, Charles Caesar, and Poupay Jutharat will grace the covers of upcoming issues. Stay tuned!
