Gov Ball After Dark

If big mainstream festivals aren’t your thing (or you want to avoid going to Randall’s Island), Gov Ball After Dark is hosting a slew of shows across Manhattan and Brooklyn featuring acts from the festival. Here are our picks of what ones you should be checking out.

Wednesday, May 29

The Voidz @ Market Hotel

Okay, so if you don’t already have tickets for this, you’re kind of S.O.L. — but this is going to be insane. Market is probably the coolest, most New York venue we have. Super small room which is crazy for the band. Promiseland and True Blue are opening as well so 10/10 great bill great evening.

Thursday, May 30

Hippo Campus @ Warsaw, Calpurnia @ Irving Plaza

Thursday is definitely catered to a more youthful crowd. Both these shows are safe to take your straight-edge siblings from out of town to. They’ll love seeing the kid from Stranger Things playing Twin Peaks-esque garage rock.

Friday, May 31

Noname @ Brooklyn Bowl, Rolling Blackout Coastal Fever @ Warsaw

This is the first day of the actual festival so both these shows don’t start until basically midnight. Noname is killer if you haven’t seen her live before and want to mix in some rap into your schedule. Rolling Blackout Coastal Fever is one of those rock bands that’s still indie but feel massive — like in a way guitar bands were in the early 2000s.

Saturday, June 1

Soccer Mommy @ Brooklyn Bazaar, Sunflower Bean @ Mercury Lounge

I know this is gonna be a hard decision for a lot of people. Both great shows. Personally, I would do Sunflower Bean cause like The Voidz show, crazy to see them at that venue. Also their latest EP slaps.

Sunday, June 2nd

U.S. Girls @ Union Pool

This is going to be so vibe-y I don’t know how else to describe it. Glam/disco/pop happening under the dinky bulbs of Union Pool is gonna be magical.
