Thrilled to finally be sharing what we’ve been working on for a minute now — Issue 9 is finally here!
We started this zine a while ago, pre-pandemic in a world where we thought we could take this to SXSW and celebrate at our showcase there, but clearly the universe had a different plan in mind. Having to shift gears and readjust what we wanted this issue to be about and how we were to complete a zine that was relevant to the changes we’re experiencing in our lives as well as art and culture was definitely a challenge, but one that worked itself out beautifully. I could not be happier about how this issue turned out, how our amazing team of contributors stepped up and innovated, and how this is now and forever a time capsule of this very weird period we’re all living in.
Very appropriately, Tkay Maidza, who recently released her EP Last Year Was Weird, Vol.2, is our cover star with an equally appropriate zoom photoshoot to accompany the feature by Lucy Blumenfield. The issue features some of our favorite bands including Dehd (album of the year), Sloppy Jane (with an insane pre-covid shoot to boot), Show Me The Body (and a throwback to their wild show at Music Hall of Williamsburg), Post Animal (recapping their latest releases and all things quarantine), Native Sun (and their last moments on tour before the shutdown), Pretty Sick (Deep Divine is unreal), and Automatic (with an AIM style group chat). We also have a playlist by tattoo artist Girl Knew York aka Mira Mariah and a feature on Paperboy Prince and how they are working to better the lives of Brooklyn communities by breaking into politics with a message of profound love.
You can pre-order your copy of Issue 9 now — we appreciate your support and hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
Special thanks to Enne Goldstein who designed this issue
