Banks is on a serious trend of going at the male gender. Similar to her song “Brain,” which mocked the intelligence of someone simply designated as “boy,” “Drowning” takes on the persona of a jilted lover. In this case, it seems to be the plight of someone who cared too much, only to be played and insulted by her companion. Banks is not one to take this sort of thing lying down, though. I mean, come on: she made you soup! And tied your shoes!
“Drowning” is the third song we’ve heard from Banks’ upcoming debut LP, titled Goddess. While we still have to wait until September to hear the whole thing, considering what we’ve heard so far, it is shaping up to be one of the better albums this year.
