My air conditioning broke while I was away on vacation last week, so I can personally confirm through lethargy inducing heat and humidity that it is indeed summer. You know what goes good with summer? New Bear In Heaven tracks. The band has jumped around from psyche to dance and back again, and always makes for a fun time. They have a new album coming out in August titled Time Is Over One Day Old. Hopefully the album will include other chill-inducing songs like the one they just released, titled “Autumn.”
It’s always been hard to place exactly where their brand of rock fits on the spectrum. “Autumn” has a bit of drone, with a driving, almost trip hop level drum and bass backing. The reverb soaked vocals also give it that psychedelic sound that they seem to have recently returned to after their dance oriented 2012 album I Love You, It’s Cool. Though it sounds haphazard, it all comes together in a relatively short, tight package. It even features one of my favorite things: a track breaking lull near the minute mark of the song, leading to a nice shift. I mean, look at that fun valley in the soundcloud audio level tracker. Really gives the song some character. Check it out below.
Time Is Over One Day Old is out August 5 on Dead Oceans.
