Not to make this post about me, but (BUT) Bishop Allen was one of the first bands I really got into as a younger person when I was ready to branch out from just listening to classic rock and obvious indie mainstays like Radiohead. I loved their year long EP series (which somehow happened all the way back in 2006), and hey if you get a chance you should check out a couple of those songs. Anyway. Now that I’ve made myself and most likely members of Bishop Allen feel old, the band has a new album coming out this August titled Lights Out. It’s the band’s first album in five years, and their third for Dead Oceans. Along with the announcement, we got a new song titled “Start Again.”
It’s pretty standard fare as far as it Bishop Allen songs go. It’s got an indie pop charm that only a band that existed during the big indie pop movement can really pull off without sounding disingenuous. For a band that seems to have been on a hiatus for at least a few of those five years, it’s certainly impressive how easily they picked back up where they left off. Check it out below.
Lights Out is out August 19 on Dead Oceans.
