You may remember Early Fragments, the excellent EP released last year by Fear of Men. It made it to number two on our favorite albums of last year, despite only being an EP. Needless to say, hopes are high for the band’s continued success. The Brighton based band announced their debut album, titled Loom, will be out in April on Kanine Records. The album consists of 11 tracks, including a couple that we’ve previously heard (“Seer” and “Green Sea,” both of which appeared on Early Fragments). On top of these, we have “Alta” and “Waterfall,” which were also released ahead of the album.

“Alta” is a lulling intro to the album, and largely relies on vocals. It builds a little with organ and then what sounds like saw (and hopefully is). It wastes no time jumping into “Waterfall” which has many of the signatures sounds that made Early Fragments so impressive. The fast paced drums standout, building a disorientating back-beat. This leads to a slower moment midway through the song, whose lyrics focus on trust and the isolation of love (“Trust in me completely, show me there’s no world outside our own”). It works nicely as both a contrast to the start of “Waterfall” and a connection to the unadorned introduction of “Alta.” It then builds back up until it fades out with a reverb heavy string section. It’s a song that could have fit easily on Early Fragments, which in this case is a high compliment. Listen below.

Loom is out April 22nd on Kanine Records. There will also be a special deluxe edition released on April 19th for Record Store Day.
