We’ve got a red alert Reese’s Cup scenario here.Not only did we get a new song from punk elites Fucked Up this week, but it also features guitar legend and Dinosaur Jr. member J. Mascis. The track is called “Led By Hand” and is one of the 10 tracks from the band’s upcoming new album Glass Boy, out June 3rd on Matador.
It’s been mentioned by the band in interviews that they are collaborating with a number of artists for Glass Boys, so it’s not necessarily surprising to see Mascis’ name on this track. None the less, it’s great to hear just how seamlessly Mascis fits into Fucked Up’s overall sound. It’s a credit to both parties that they can make a song this good with little to no collaborative history. Compared to the intricate work on David Comes to Life, “Led By Hand” is streamlined and makes it points simply and effectively. It seems to be an aesthetic they will stick to on Glass Boys, and while it might not be a masterpiece rock opera like its predecessor, I’m certain it will be excellent in its own right. Its nice to know that at least one thing about Toronto is consistent (insert Rob Ford or Maple Leafs joke here). Listen below.
