Karen O delivers with a heartfelt, drug-induced love song off her debut solo album Crush Songs. Tastefully lo-fi, as if it were recorded in some New York bedroom, “Day Go By” strings along two tales of drug addiction and desire for some absent lover (each complimenting each other with metaphors that could go either way). The guitar drags as the day does, waiting around for someone to stop by to hook you up with a fix or a hug. Karen’s vocals are fragile, sometimes on the verge of slipping off key, and sound like an emotional breakdown that has either passed or frighteningly imminent. It’s the type of song you listen to over and over again while you wait around for something happen. A perfect addition for the new mixtape you’re making for that cute barista you always see but never have the nerve to talk to. Check it out below.
Crush Songs is out on 9/9 on Cult Records.
