Brooklyn’s Lushes are in contention with Todd Terje for the best album name so far this year. The understated but amazingly named What Am I Doing will be out in early March on Felte. “Dead Girls,” a track from said album, gives us a peek into the brash post punk style that the band has brought to the new album.

It’s really something special, and sounds like what impending doom must feel like. It almost verges on metal more than any other genre, but feels too slow paced to ever really move into that territory. In fact, its pace is really what makes it stand out. It doesn’t really sound like it follows any rules or conventions at all, stopping and starting at random, and in its most brilliant part, slowing down to a snails pace. This leads to a entertaining jam sequence to end the song. It all sounds like a bizarre funeral dirge or some kind of dark ritual. Listen below.

What Am I Doing is out March 4th on Felte.
