This isn’t your grandparent’s Lust For Youth. No, this is something completely new. Hannes Norrvide, who was originally the sole member and creator of the band, has now recruited Loke Rahbek and Malthe Fisher. You’ll surely notice Rahbek on vocals, whose singing voice is a steep departure from what Norrvide used to provide. Fisher plays guitar and also helps in production. These additions are immediately noticeable and have a massive effect on the sound of the band. If you’ve ever listened to Lust For Youth before, you’ll notice that only the darkly synthetic style remains, and has been used as a solid foundation for something that truly sounds special now.
This is immediately heard in “Armida,” the newest song to debut from the band’s upcoming album, International. The album will be out in June on Brooklyn’s finest, Sacred Bones. While it still has that menacing and gritty presence, there is a flowery essence to the song, brought on by its extra layers and clean and professional vocals. As someone who’s always been a fan of the band, but thought they could accomplish much more in refinement, it’s a sound for sore ears (if you’ll allow me to horrendously flip that idiom). Check it out below.
International is out June 10 on Sacred Bones.
