LA-born and NYC-bred rock band LYNSEY released its first single, “Worse – demo,” on June 15.

The five-minute-long track is bold for a debut with its timestamp alone, and with lyrics like “I am that long, cool woman in that black dress / One hell of a compulsion left.” It seals the deal with its Live Through This-era Courtney Love nostalgia and catchy, alluring bassline that’s already found a cozy spot to live in my head rent-free.

The likes of Momma and Wednesday are next in the shuffle after I play “Worse” on Spotify, so the song’s in good company amongst the rise of hit-making alt-rockers, riding the popular wave of contemporary rock bands reinventing 90s sounds. Its guitars are dreamy in feel (evoking mid-60s psych rock), its lyricism is nihilistically romantic (thanks to Hole’s inspiration), and the band rocks out at the four-minute mark in tride-and-true NYC guitar-rock fashion.

The song was written by LYNSEY frontwoman, guitarist, and namesake, Nicole L. Galinson, songwriter EJ Safter, and NYC rock band Monobloc’s own Ben Scofield. Galinson and Scofield tag-teamed in composing the track. Galinson formed LYNSEY a few years ago in NYC.

Galinson and the band’s final NYC show was on 4/20 when they were on the bill for The Deli Mag’s 2025 Magazine Fair at Baby’s All Right. You can find lots of footage of it on the band’s Instagram. We’re hoping for many more LYNSEY tracks and shows to come.
