The unmistakable one-two punch of a Parquet Courts‘ riff has the ability to transcend genre. The skittish punk of last year’s tremendous Light Up Gold single “Stoned and Starving” has evolved into the meandering blues rock of “Instant Disassembly” — our latest taste of their forthcoming, fantastically titled LP Sunbathing Animal. “I get a look from you that slips me to a blank page in my soul / Like the left-open window, ignored, it cuts to my core when I see you cry,” Andrew Savage sings bluntly on the seven-minute-plus rocker. Sharing little in common with the recently released title track, “Instant Disassembly” feels a lot like its downtrodden younger brother — bored with the world and in desperate need of their sibling’s sugar high.
