Phantogram and Future Islands put out two of our favorite albums so far this year (Voices and Singles, respectively). Those singular named albums have very distinct styles. Voices is something of a boozy dance pop album and Singles sounds as if Morrissey decided to get into synths.  So what happens when you apply one of those styles to the other? You get Future Islands’ remix of Phantogram’s “Black Out Days.”

Future Islands slow the song down a considerable amount, adding keyboard that would fit in with any song off of Singles. The somber and regretful lyrics fit perfectly into the downtrodden, darkly hewed soundscape Future Islands have re-imagined the song into. It almost piece for piece sounds like a Future Islands’ song with Sarah Barthel’s vocals superimposed over it. And all things considered, that makes for a pretty intriguing remix. Listen below.

Voices is out now on Republic. Singles is also out now on 4AD.
