Listen: Pinecones “Sleep Is Forget”

Pinecones from Arrowhawk Records

If you haven’t finished your last-minute holiday shopping for the indie music lover in your family, check out the Georgia-based Pinecones’ debut album Sings For You Now

The group was formed during a breakfast in 2012 when guitarist Brian Atoms wanted to pursue a sound “that was influenced by the existential writings of Henry David Thoreau and Walt Whitman.” While all four members have more of a punk and grindcore background, the longtime friends, who have played off and on together for nearly a decade, collaborated on their most recent project to create a mastery of vintage rock mixed with some cosmic distortion and a little bit of spoken word.

Their first single “Sleep is Forget” features warm guitar riffs that could have come from an underground London club in the late 1960s and a melancholy, meditative chorus that will intrigue any listener. The road to enlightenment is a long one, but for now, these tracks are definitely a fun listen and may be what you need to relax and clear your head.
