Even for an EP, Reptaliens latest output is brief. Going by the name of ‘Wrestling’, the tracks come and go like waves on a distant shoreline, each one a little different, but blended in their nature and direction.
The new sound is short and fleeting, but somehow Reptaliens still manage to pack a punch. Bambi’s voice is calm and soothing, to the point of lethargic, but coupled with the classic sounding synths and the pinpoint production there’s something wonderfully sharp here. There’s an urgency which is not often achieved in this genre.
Unfortunately, given the nature of an EP, this urgency also means the whole thing ends as quick as Donald Trump’s hopes and dreams. But that’s alright. I’m sure whatever Reptaliens have next for us is worth the wait. After all, I’ve got a feeling there’s a whole ocean behind these waves that’s just waiting to be discovered.
