Tyler McCauley and Tara Chacon are Soft Lit. “Ocean King” is the first official release by the band. The 7-inch will be released soon on Godmode, though a release date has not been officially announced yet. If the rest of the band’s output is as good as “Ocean King” then they will assuredly have a long a prosperous career. It has a almost subterranean style to it in the beginning stages. There are echoes of loss that permeate throughout the song, and once it hits its chorus it becomes a completely different song. All the reservations that appeared at the beginning seem to be flushed away and replaced by an emphatic and cathartic back beat accompanied by blown-out synth. It’s quite an accomplishment for a band that is only debuting their first song. Listen below.
